Title: Cardiac Sonographer 1 Department Org: Heart Station - 109070 Employee Classification: B8 - Unclass Contingent AFSCME HSC Bargaining Unit: AFSCME HSC Primary Location: HSC H Shift: 1 Start Time: 8:00am End Time: 4:30pm Posted Salary: Float: False Rotate: True On Call: True Travel: False Weekend/Holiday: False Job Description: As a member of the health care team, performs non-invasive cardiac diagnostic testing including M-mode echocardiograms, 2-Dimensional and 3-Dimensional Sector scans, Cardiac Doppler, Colorflow Imaging, and measurement of Ejection Fraction by echocardiogram on patients who are adolescent, and adults at UTMC. Assists the physician in the performance of Transesophageal Echocardiograms. Performs Stress Exercise Echocardiograms in the Heart Station with the Stress Laboratory personnel. Maintains digital computer system. Adheres to NPSG 09.02.01 by following the Morse Fall Scale to assess all patients for their risk of falling. 2. Adheres to NPSG 07.01.01 by effectively washing hands when going from one patient to the next. • Knowledgeable about patient safety and quality of care issues. Able to recognize safety issues in the department and handles incidents per institutional and/or departmental policies and procedures. If safety issues were identified; all issues were handled timely and appropriately. • Department education and training focus has a direct impact on patient safety and reduces unsafe working conditions for employees. • Employee attends and follows all department specific safety education and training in an effort to create a safe work environment. 1. Recognizes Frayed Cord: Reports equipment dysfunction in timely manner. Make sure alternate process is in place and action is taken. Reduces adverse results or impact to patient care and the employee. 2. Recognize exposure to Blood: Worked as a team to limit exposure and create a safe work environment. Safety concerns: The manager has been timely with staff training and education. Wiping up spills. 3. Follows standardized approach for handoff communication Follows policy for communication including the opportunity to ask and respond to questions Minimum Qualifications: Qualifications/Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required Education/Experience/Licensing: • Associate degree in Cardiovascular Technology or higher relevant degree required • Must be registered in Adult Echocardiography through ARDMS or obtain within six (6) months of hire. • Computer knowledge required. • AHA/CPR certification required in Basic Life Support Health Care Provider • Experience in non-invasive cardiology preferred. Required Communication and other skills: • Must be able to be on-call and work independently when called in. • Must be able to be on-call and be in to the hospital within 1 hour when called in.
