Req ID: 27932 ? Responsibilities The operator is responsible for
safety, workmanship, product quality and productivity in the
performance of the job. Studies blueprints, sketches, drawings,
manuals, specifications, or sample part to determine dimensions and
tolerances of finished workpiece, sequence of operations, and setup
requirements. Measures, marks, and scribes dimensions and reference
points on material or work-piece as guides for subsequent machining
as necessary. Selects, aligns, and secures holding fixtures,
cutting tools, attachments, accessories, and materials on machines
as necessary to machine parts as required. Calculates and sets
controls to regulate machining factors such as speed, feed, coolant
flow, and depth and angle of cut, or enters commands to retrieve,
input, or edit computerized machine control media according to
established guidelines and procedures. Starts and observes machine
operation to detect malfunctions or out-of-tolerance machining, and
adjusts machine controls or control media as required. Verifies
conformance of finished work-piece to specifications, using
measuring and inspection tools as necessary. Sets up and operates
machine on trial run to verify accuracy of machine settings or
programmed control data. Performs routine maintenance tasks on
machines as required. Confers with engineers, production personnel,
programmers, or others to resolve machining or assembly problems.
Maintain a clean and organized work area and maintain all
equipment, to like new appearance, according to maintenance plans
and established procedures. Maintain a positive work atmosphere by
acting and communicating in a manner so that you get along with
customers, clients, co-workers and management. Continue to grow in
knowledge and maximize use of tools to identify and assist with
continuous improvement. Ensure that safe work practices are

clean and orderly work areas. The operator is responsible for
making setup sheets and/or updating setup sheets when a job is
complete. The operator must obtain some measuring devices from the
crib. Cross-training of employees to provide flexibility will be
required. Required lifting of up to 50 lbs. Basic Requirements High
School Diploma or GED. Five (5) or more years previous experience
as a machinist. Previous welding industry experience is a plus;
knowledge of welding is preferred. 1-2 years mechanical assembly
experience is a plus. Basic reading skills. Must be able to follow
directions Basic computer navigation and utilization skills.
Ability to perform work accurately and thoroughly. Ability to use
thinking and reasoning to solve a problem and to think in such a
way as to produce a new concept or idea. High attention to detail
and self-motivation skills. Specific technical or vocational
training or certification is preferred. Advanced measurement skills
(mics, calipers, indicators, etc.). Advanced knowledge of feeds and
speeds. Complex blue print reading skills. Be able to do shop
mathematics including trigonometry. Understand basic GD&T
call-outs. Quality Knowledgeable of all quality procedures used to
process items in work center. Ability and knowledge to meet all
written specifications and prints, and ensure compliance with all
standards. Comply with factory spec for production part and first
piece checks. Skills, Aptitude and Abilities Extensive machining
skills. Excellent mechanical aptitude. Must have CNC programming
knowledge. Must have excellent math skills. Must be able to read
and understand specifications and prints. Must be able to read a
scale, caliper, O.D. and I.D. micrometers, depth micrometer, bore
gauges, go-no-go gauges, thread gauges, pin gauges, plug gauges,
depth gauges, and dial indicators. Must be able to use general
math, record and post earnings on a daily basis. Average hand
dexterity is required. Maximum weight lifted - infrequent basis 50
lbs. Maximum weight lifted - repetitive basis 10 lbs.
Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) Understand the company’s EHS
Policy and how it relates to this job. Be aware of OSHA and EPA
laws and regulations as well as the company’s Plant Rules and
Regulations that pertain to this job. Work in a safe manner and
observe all company EHS and JHA procedures. Follow safe equipment
operating procedures and only operate equipment when guards are in
place and in good condition. Know that the company EHS procedures
are contained in reference books such as SSW Specifications, Plant
Rules and Regulations and Material Safety Data Sheets which are
located in the Foreman’s area. Immediately notify the Supervisor if
there is any safety hazard, any equipment not operating correctly,
or if there are any questions regarding EHS and JHA procedures.
Training The Supervisor/Manager shall determine when an individual
has completed the training and is qualified to assume these
responsibilities. The Supervisor/Manager shall ensure that the
employee receives “on the job training”, and the following training
at the appropriate times. See Lincoln specification RE150 for
